Sports Massage Therapy is individually tailored for everyone, to prevent or correct sports injuries from sports and exercise
Remedial Massage focuses on postural problems from work based activities, medical issues and playing musical instruments. Long term conditions like Scoliosis and Piriformis syndrome resulting in sciatica, can benefit from this treatment.
Trigger Points will be focused upon to relieve pain and discomfort. These ”knots“ are painful to the touch and can refer pain around the body. Resisted stretches (MET) can be used to improve flexibility. My ofascial Release softens fascia. Mobilisations can increase the range of movement in joints. Cross fibre friction breaks up scar tissue. Soft Tissue Release combines pressure and movement to break up adhesions. Some or all of the above advanced techniques may be used.
Postural Analysis will precede the massage. This includes visual observation and palpation (process of using hands to assess areas of dysfunction). If pain is present, active passive and resisted muscle testing or orthopaedic testing will be done. Sports⁄Remedial Massage is not a substitute for medical care and it is advisable to consult your GP for medical advice.
I am a Stott Pilates Certified Instructor, and have also completed the YMCA CYQ L3 and the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy, Pilates Institute) Level 1 Matwork course. I chose to become an instructor as I injured myself on an Asthanga yoga retreat. Having been a therapist since 1993, and a teacher since 2001, the obvious choice was to rehab my back through Pilates. I really believe in the power of Pilates as a rehab therapy, and would strongly recommend everyone to engage in Pilates exercise as a way to prevent back injuries.
Stott Pilates is a mind-body exercise based on the principles of Joseph Pilates, incorporating modern anatomical knowledge from Physiotherapists and Sports Scientists. The aim is optimal musculoskeletal performance, strength, flexibility and endurance, without risking injury or building bulk. The focus is on core stability, including pelvic and shoulder girdle stabilization, neutral alignment and breathing. The Stott Pilates method of exercise also helps restore the natural curves of the spine and relieves tension, important goals if you are either a rehab client or an avid exerciser.
One-one sessions are 60 min and are reasonably priced and offered privately in the comfort of your own home, as I believe everyone should be able to access quality treatment. Clients are welcome even if it is for only one session to learn the principles correctly, so they can then attend community classes with confidence.
Sports Therapy is offered to clients needing rehab, or to protect their back, as the majority of people have back problems, from sitting at their desks at work. Sports Therapy sessions will be either 60 or 90 min in duration. The session will consist of Postural Assessment, Sports Massage and Pilates. Relevant stretches may also be given for home care. This treatment is available at the Waldegrave Clinic, Canary Wharf Clinic or in private practise.

Aromatherapy utilises Swedish Massage techniques to promote relaxation, and boost the circulatory system. Drainage movements aid detoxification of the lymphatic system. Essential oils are distilled from plant flowers, bark and leaves. They contain Phyto-Hormones which chemically interact with our own. Tiny molecules are absorbed by the client through inhalation and the massage. Chemicals enter the blood stream and are circulated around the body.
Benefits of essential oils:
Decrease muscle spasm
Balance the hormonal system
Calm or stimulate the mind & body

The stones warm up the muscles to relieve tension. The tissues are manipulated by acupressure techniques working energy lines in the body. Aromatherapy oils are inhaled at the beginning and end of treatment to aid relaxation. The back routine is "freestyle" enabling me to utilise forearms and elbows to treat specific areas of tension.

The benefits are:
Stimulates the circulatory system.
Encourages deep breathing, enabling oxygen to replenish the cells and increase energy.
Strengthens the lymphatic system aiding detoxification, promoting good health.
To relieve muscle fatigue, tension and stiff joints.
Speed up the digestive and elimination process.
Treatment time can vary from a back, neck and shoulder routine for 30 min, to a full body massage for 60-90min.

This short treatment (30 min) concentrates on relieving typically tense areas such as the head, neck, shoulders and upper arms. Very useful against stress and headaches. Scalp massage stimulates the nerves and blood supply to the head which can stimulate hair growth. Oils can be used on the scalp if requested to alleviate itchiness in clients with eczema.
Emphasis is placed on draining the lymphatic system. The treatment is light to medium pressure. Percussive movements are used to stimulate the circulatory system, releasing toxins, while pumping actions are used to cleanse the body, with aromatherapy oils such as Cypress, Geranium, Fennel.Rosemary Lemon and Grapefruit.
